PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an active material and an electrode using the active material for an alkaline storage battery maintaining high charging efficiency at a high temperature. SOLUTION: This electrode active material includes at least one type of vanadium or a vanadium compound, nickel hydroxide or a hydrogen storage alloy. On this electrode, at least one type of vanadium or a vanadium compound is placed on the surface of the electrode active material, inside the electrode, or on an outer surface of the electrode.
