PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hot roll treatment apparatus which is capable of suppressing the quality trouble accompanying the shape defect, such as uneven elongating or curling, of a web. SOLUTION: The web 2 is a thin film type magnetic recording medium. The hot roll 1 is heated to about 230 deg.C. The external shape of a cooling roll 4 is a nearly columnar shape. Since cold water is circulated to the cooling roll 4, the surface of the cooling roll 4 is kept heated near to the temperature of the cold water. Also, the surface of the cooling roll 4 comes into contact with the surface of a nip roll 3 and, therefore, the surface of the nip roll 3 is cooled. An air blow nozzle 7 blows cold air to the surface of the nip roll 3. Consequently, the surface of the nip roll 3 is cooled. The temperature of the nip roll 3 is preferably in a range of 50 to 100 deg.C.
