Solid firelighter production comprises using a combustible composition containing a hydrocarbon and a curable resin or prepolymer in conditioned fragments enabling them to spread by gravity to form a layer or bed of combustible material on contact with a flame. Solid firelighter production comprises hardening a combustible composition, containing a combustible material, e.g. a hydrocarbon, a binder, e.g. a curable resin or prepolymer, water, a curing agent and optionally an emulsifier, in conditioned fragments enabling them to spread by gravity to form a layer or bed of combustible material on contact with a flame. An Independent claim is included for the above firelighter per se.
