PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for protecting data packets from errors. SOLUTION: A receiving block 110 receives streams 70 and 80 and transmits a data packet Xp' and an FEC(forward error correction) packet Yp', g'. A detection block 120 checks the sequence number included in the data packet header to detect data packet losses. The data packet is inputted to a block 125 for restitution of the stream. This procedure includes a step to generates FEC packets for n data packets. Based on n/s data packets Xi+js (j=0..., N/S-1), an FEC packet Yi (i is a natural number from 0 to n/S-1) is generated. This invention makes it possible to recover the loss of consecutive data packets up to S packets during the period from the time when the difference between two groups of lost consecutive packets is larger than N to transmission time.
