PURPOSE: A method and a device for processing a self hard link in a data process system are provided to perform a backup operation by processing all directory on a path downward to a directory including a self link in order to build up a confirmed directory set. CONSTITUTION: When a user input confirming a bad path including a self link is received(400), a syntax of the user input is analyzed(402). If the user input is incorrect, an error message is recurred, and a process is finished(406). On the other side, if the user input is correct, the user input is stored at a file(408), and an input in file is formatted again, and '/' is substituted with a blank(410). If a previous master file list is existed, an extension of the master file list is changed in order to prepare the case of inspecting the file(414). After this, a relative path is confirmed(416), and a processed current directory is confirmed. If the previous master file list is not existed, a directory list just under the current directory is confirmed(420). A directory just under the current directory on the bad path is removed from the directory list(422). After this, all paths and file names are confirmed at the directory list(424), and all files are confirmed in the current directory(428). Next, in order to evade a bad link, it is decided whether a self directory is processed or not(432). If the self directory is not processed, the relative path is confirmed(416), and if the self directory is processed, the process is finished.
