CELL GROWTH SUBSTRATE

A cell culture growth substrate comprising a water soluble glass matrix adapted to sustain growth of living cells. Preferably the substrate comprise s or is coated with living cells. The water-soluble glass is advantageously phosphate based and comprises glass fibres or finely comminuted particles. T he invention also relates to the use of the growth substrate as an implant to replace or promote repair of damaged tissue in a patient and to a method to encourage growth of living tissue.
