The invention relates to a compact, high-resolution monochromatorwith a high capacity for the reduction of scattered light, havingone input aperture, one output aperture and one diffraction grid,whereby the ray paths between the input gap and the output gap intersect each other. The two mirrors have different curvatures (rentr≠rexit). The curvature radii and the focal lengths are in a ratio (1) to the orientation angles and preferably between 0.6 and 0.8 or 1.4 ... 1.2.
