PURPOSE: A method for producing 1,3-propanediol is developed for selectively and speedily obtaining the product by using multi-substituted guanidine compound having specific structure as reaction promotor. CONSTITUTION: A preparation process of 1,3-propanediol comprises carrying out hydroformylation reaction of ethylene oxide by using synthetic gas under cobalt catalyst in solvent and hydrogenating the resulted material. The hydroformylation is accelerated by multi-substituted guanidine compound of formula 1 as a reaction promotor, where R1, R2, R3, R4 and R5 are independently selected from hydrogen, straight or branched alkyl, phenylalkyl or phenyl, naphthyl groups, and any one alkyl group of R1 or R2 and another one alkyl group of R3 or R4 can be hydrocarbon ring structure of cyclo-aliphatic hydrocarbon.
