A process is described for the production of an anodized aluminum article coloured by virtue of the increasing amount of light scattering by deposited particles and consequent absorption of light within the anodic coating. The process comprises the steps of (a) establishing a porous anodic film on the aluminum surface, (b) treating the porous anodic film so that only a proportion of the pores remain active, and (c) electrolytically depositing an inorganic pigmentary material into the active pores at a current density of at least 10 A/m2. During treatment of the porous anodic film, a proportion of the pores may be encouraged to nucleate and develop pore colonies.
|
