PURPOSE: An expansion tank is provided to make a ship engine compact and to fill the role of a pipe for engine coolant between an engine exit and an exhaust manifold and between a cooler and a water pump with an embedded thermostat valve. CONSTITUTION: An expansion tank (30) is installed in the front of a ship engine as the upper portion of a pulley to shorten the ship engine. At least more than one coolant passing chamber is formed in the expansion tank and a thermostat valve is embedded in the side of the coolant passing chamber. In this structure, the expansion tank is directly connected to the coolant exit of an engine in a first entrance. The first entrance is connected to an exhaust manifold(22) to flow high temperature coolant to the exhaust manifold from the engine through the high temperature coolant passing chamber. A coupling pipe(24) is connected to a second entrance to flow coolant to the low temperature coolant passing chamber. The second entrance is connected to a water pump to flow the coolant to the engine.
