The method involves allocating speech or speech commands to an equipment function in the vehicle via speech pattern comparison. Ad hoc new functions can be facilitated by ad hoc generation and allocation of new speech patterns and these ad hoc generations are performed by adaptive transcription. An Independent claim is also included for an arrangement for operating a speech-controlled device for a motor vehicle.
