PURPOSE: An apparatus for utilizing a switch band in an ATM(Asynchronous Transfer Mode) exchange is provided to connect a subscriber interface device to a CMDA(Cell Multiplexer/Demultiplexer Assembly), by adding a switch port of a switch module and a joint function to the subscriber interface device, so as to share the switch port to utilize bands over 100Mbps. CONSTITUTION: If user data are received, a subscriber interface device(10) performs a physical layer processing and an operation for adding a routing tag 3-byte. A controller of the subscriber interface device(10) decides whether a present cell has to be transmitted to a switch port of a switch module(12) or the present cell has to be transmitted to a control system module(16). If the present cell has to be transmitted to the switch module(12), the controller performs an existing internal process and transmits the present cell to the switch module(12) through a path(18). 8 bytes for adjusting the cell to an internal format are added to 56-byte cells by a switch interface link, and the 64-byte cells are transmitted to the switch module(12). If the present cell has to be transmitted to the control system module(16), the controller performs an added internal processing function and transmits the present cell to the switch module(12) through the path(18). The 56-byte cells are processed to be adjusted to a CMDA(Cell Multiplexing/Demultiplexing Assembly) format by the switch interface link, and the 56-byte cells are transmitted to a CMDA(14) through a path(20).
