PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the amount of residue, to completely performing fermentation and gasification of garbage and thereby to completely digest and destroy the garbage, in a garbage treatment process using a rotary drum type garbage treatment device. SOLUTION: This process comprises: charging garbage through a charging port 40; moving the charged garbage by a screw 29 fixed to a driving shaft of a geared motor 3; mixing the garbage with a bed material while completely dehydrating the garbage with a screw 26' and a double helical screw 26 in a mixing vessel 5 rotated in the reverse direction to the rotational direction of the screw 29, wherein the removed water from the garbage is discharged through small holes 22 and a drainpipe 7; then transferring the dehydrated garbage and bed material to a decomposition vessel 11 which is a large-diameter drum adjacently connected to the mixing vessel 5; in the decomposition vessel 11, mixing and agitating the dehydrated garbage and bed material with ribbon screws 11' and 11" reversely flighted to each other; and concurrently, promoting decomposition of the mixture with microorganisms by using a hot air blower. Also, in the process, the water content adjustment and the discharge of gaseous nitrogen and gaseous carbon dioxide, each formed by the decomposition, are performed through small holes 25 so as to safely discharge these gases through a discharging port 19 and further, each of the mixing vessel 5 and the decomposition vessel 11 can be rotated freely in the clockwise and counterclockwise directions with the geared motor 12.
