PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a high-quality powdered green tea capable of efficiently preventing a beverage from browning, slightly deteriorating in color tone even by long-term preservation by formulating a powder tea-containing beverage with an effective amount of vitamin C or a mixture of vitamin C and its salt. SOLUTION: A beverage containing a powder tea (e.g. powdered green tea, etc.), is formulated with an effective amount of vitamin C or a mixture of vitamin C and its salt to prevent the beverage from browning. The powdered green tea beverage preferably contains 0.005 to 0.5 wt.% of sodium ascorbate, 0.0001-1.0 wt.% of a thickening polysaccharide such as native gellan gum, xanthan gum, dextrin, etc., to prevent settling and 0.0001-1.0 wt.% of microcrystalline cellulose. The color tone is revised by adding a blue coloring matter. The beverage is preferably packed into a transparent container through which the, contents are visible as they are. |
