COMPOSITION OF ARTIFICIAL MARBLE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain excellent appearance by using >=2 kinds of aluminum hydroxides each having different particle size as filler in a composition to control the transparency without using a coloring agent. SOLUTION: Plural kinds of aluminum hydroxides each having different particle size previously designed to match the desired transparency are combined and blended in a resin such as a vinyl ester resin. Further, a curing agent and various additives are blended in prescribed ratios and stirred with a stirrer, or the like, to be mixed to adjust the composition of the artificial marble. The composition is defoamed by vacuum under a reduced pressure of about 3-50 Torr. The defoamed composition of the artificial marble is poured into a prescribed metallic mold and heated at about 50-110 deg.C for about 30-120 min to accelerate the copolymerization reaction of the vinyl ester resin in the composition with a crosslinking agent to be cured and formed. The particles of the aluminum hydroxides are preferably treated with various kinds of silane coupling agents in the view point of both dispersibility and impact resistance.
