PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of anα,ω-dilithio polymer including a preparation process of a bifunctional polymn. initiator for reacting 1,3- diisopropenyl benzene with a monofunctional org. lithium compd. SOLUTION: This polymer is manufactured as follows: (1) Preparation of a bifunctional polymerization initiator from 1,3-diisopropenyl benzene and a monofunctional org. lithium compd. is carried out in an org. solvent consisting mainly of a non-polar hydrocarbon contg. 2-4 vol.% aliphatic ether. (2) To the solution of the reaction mixture obtd., a conjugated diene monomers is added and the conjugated diene monomer is polymerized for at least 30 min. (3) For 30 min from the start of the addition, described in (2), the temp. of the reaction mixture is kept in the range of -20-15 deg.C, or the reaction is controlled so that Mn of the produced polymer is not higher than 10,000 and Mn of thisα,ω-dilithio polymer is not lower than 20,000.
