PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for producing low-pressure double layer glass capable of rapidly producing a large amount of the low-pressure double layer glass. SOLUTION: The low-pressure double layer glass 1 is formed with a low- pressure space by isolating two sheets of sheet glass apart a prescribed spacing, disposing dotty, wire-shaped or net-like spacers for holding the spacing therebetween and melting and hermetically sealing the peripheral marginal edges of this panel. In the method for maintaining a low pressure in the hollow layer of the double layer glass 1 at the time of the production described above, >=2 units of vacuum pumps 41 and >=2 units of buffer tanks 7 and 8 connected with these vacuum pumps 41 are used and the discharge pipes emerging from the buffer tanks are connected to the aperture of the double layer glass, by which the low pressure is generated in the hollow layer of the double layer glass.
