The second hydrogenation reactor comprises a first compartment containing a catalyst bed and a second catalyst-free compartment for the removal of a liquid volume. The hydrogenation of organic compounds comprises passing a liquid feed containing a hydrogenatable organic compound through first and second reactors in series and bringing into contact with hydrogen in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst.
