This invention relates to the powerful antifungal and antibacterial action of the mastich oil extracted from the leaves, branches and fruit of Chios mastich, revealed by chromatographic analysis, against the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus (atcc 25923), Staphylococcus epidermidis (atcc 12228), the four gram-negative bacteria Escherichia coli (atcc 25922), Enetrobacter cloacae (atcc 13047), Klebsiella pneumoniae (atcc 13883) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (atcc 227853), and the fungi Candida albicans, Candida tropicalis and Torulopsis glabrata. This very powerful pharmacological action makes mastich oil useful in combating oiliness, dandruff, eczemas, as an antiseptic against acne, inflammation of the gums and dental plaque, either alone or in combination with other active ingredients or in various cosmetic pharmacotechnical forms, such as: face creams, body creams, sun protection creams, toothpastes, dental chewing gun, dental solutions, tooth cleansing floss, toothpicks impregnated with mastich oil, shampoos, antiseptic soaps, lotions, emulsions, creams for acne, bubble baths, anti-dandruff shampoos, para-pharmaceutical preparations to treat burns and scalds. Mastich oil has the advantage of its uniqueness and lack of the development of resistance in the above fungi and bacteria. It can be used in various pharmacotechnical and cosmetic forms, such as shampoos, soap, creams, lotions, emulsions, toothpastes, dental chewing gums, sun protection creams, hand creams, body creams and emulsions, and slimming creams.
