PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To judge the service life of a magnetic disk device such as a video-use magnetic disk device. SOLUTION: When an ECC error occurs at the time of reading data, this system judges to which the ECC error corresponds, an ECC error 16 on a continuous sector on the same track, or an ECC error 17 astride tracks on the same zone, or an ECC error 18 across zones, and judges the life of the magnetic disk device based on the physical continuity of this ECC error.
