PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a fingerprint identifying device capable of preventing an electrical and mechanical breakdowns of silicon chip sensor. SOLUTION: This device comprises a protection member 4 which opens and closes a detecting face of a fingerprint detecting means 40, and electrically and mechanically protects the detecting face of the fingerprint detecting means 40, by keeping the protection member 4 at an open state with a protection member keeping means 7 when the open state of the member 4 is detected, and then releasing the keeping the member 4 at the open state when detection of a fingerprint is terminated.
