PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a system for expanding a multiple reflector antenna system. SOLUTION: An antenna system 10 comprises an antenna structure 12 mounted on a satellite 14, and an antenna feed array 16 is attached to the structure 12. Before expansion, a plurality of launching locks 44, 46, 50 and 54 hold an arm assembly 26 in its housing position against the pressure force of hinges 28 and 34. When the antenna system is expanded, the assembly 26 is first moved in a direction where the assembly 26 is backed away from the array 16 by the action of the pressure force of the 1st hinge 28, and next, a 2nd arm 32 is moved in a direction where the arm 32 is backed away from a 1st arm 30 by the action of the pressure force of the hinge 34.
