PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To recover cake of a low water content intermittently by a method in which hardly-filtered sludge is removed by double side filtration while the sludge is moved with a filter chamber, and shear resistance generated on the contact surfaces of the cake and the sludge deposited on a filter surface is used as filtration force. SOLUTION: In a filter press, a filter chamber 13 is formed from two diskshaped filter plates fitted to a driving shaft and a peripheral ring 12 contacted with the peripheral parts of the filter plates, a nonreturn plate 17 is fitted to the peripheral ring of the lower part of the chamber 13, the side fringe part of the plate 17 is made to approach the filter plate, its tip part is made to slide on the driving shaft, a sludge supply opening 8 is opened on the initial end side of the chamber 13 regulated by the plate 17, and on the terminal end side, a cake discharge opening is opened in the peripheral ring. While the chamber 13 is rotated, frictional resistance is generated between the plate 17 and sludge, and shear frictional resistance force is generated between cake deposited on the filter surface and sludge whose central part is relatively soft. In this way, sludge can be concentrated and dewatered.
