PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the elliptical distortion of the inner diameter of a cylinder bore in a Siamese cylinder block having a common cylinder wall formed in an area between adjacent cylinder bores, during tightening a cylinder head to the upper face thereof. SOLUTION: A chaplet 8 is formed of a metal plate into a sectionally flat shape with a slit hollow portion 8a. The chaplet 8 is cast in a common cylinder wall 6 so that the slit hollow portion of the chaplet may open to the upper face of a cylinder block or one longitudinal edge of the chaplet is exposed to the upper face of the cylinder block.
