PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevating/lowering device for girder crane which prevents noise from being caused by whipping of an elevating/lowering chain included therein. SOLUTION: An elevating/lowering chain 33, one end of which is fixed, hangs downward at first and, rises up through the upside of a drive sprocket 29 to suspend a carrier 7 at the other end. When the carrier 7 is elevated or lowered by moving the elevating/lowering chain 33, slack of the elevating/lowering chain 33 is pressed against a chain guide 37 by a component force of its self weight generated by the inclination of the chain guide 37 inclining by a specified angle.
