PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a method for recording pictures on a thermally reversible recording medium having a high utilization factor of the applied energy, multicolor displaying and having high precision. SOLUTION: In this method, a picture is formed on a thermosensitive recording layer 4 with the heat generated by the near infrared laser irradiation on a thermally reversible recording medium 1 provided with the thermosensitive recording layer 4 containing a cholesteric liquid crystal material of which the selective reflection wavelength varies depending on the temperature.
