The container (1) has a ring-shaped lip (3) of superabsorbent material around the inside of its neck (2). Once the flower stalks (5) have been passed through the ring and into the container, water is added so that the ring swells and grips tightly against the stalks. The ring now acts as a seal keeping the water (6) inside the container.
