METHOD FOR PREPARING SPHERICAL SHAPED TITANIUM CARBIDE

PURPOSE: A method for preparing spherical shaped titanium carbide by self-propagating high temperature synthesis is provided. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises steps of: (i) adding metallic powder as a binder to a mixture of titanium powder and carbon powder; (ii) laminating the mixed powder on a metallic plate having an excellent heat-conductivity and then igniting it with a pyrogen to prepare a porous mixed body of spherical shaped titanium carbide and binder metal; and (iii) reacting the porous mixed body with acid solution to leach the binder metal and separate spherical shaped titanium carbide powder.
