摘要 PURPOSE: A method for controlling a low speed power of a forward link is provided to use a signal to interference ratio(SIR) for a measured receiving signal in a user channel of the forward link, and to select a multilevel power control step, thereby reducing a probability of a wrong power control according to a measured error of the SIR. The method is provided to code a difference value between the measured SIR and a destination SIR as a bi-orthogonal code, and to insert the difference value in a transmit power control(TPC) to transmit the difference value to a base station, thereby reducing TPC errors. CONSTITUTION: A mobile station measures a signal to interference ratio(SIR) of a received signal during one frame period of a forward link user channel. The mobile station compares the measured SIR with a predetermined destination SIR, and operates a difference value between the measured SIR and the destination SIR. The mobile station selects a power control step for regulating a control level by corresponding to the difference value. The mobile station codes the selected power control step, and inserts a corresponding code in a power control field during a next frame period, then transmits the corresponding code to a base station. The mobile station controls a power of the forward link user channel by the power control step corresponding to the transmitted code through the power control field.
