PURPOSE: A shifting up or down is possible without routing a neutral position at a manual transmission mode, thereby improving an operability of a gear transmission. CONSTITUTION: In an automatic transmission having an automatic transmission mode and a manual transmission mode, a gear shifting device has a following components. A select lever(10) selects the manual transmission mode, the automatic transmission mode, or each ranges by a driver's operation. An automatic mode pass(Ap) selects each ranges of 'P, R, N, D, S1, S2, L' of the automatic transmission mode by the select lever(10). A first manual mode pass is connected to the automatic mode pass(Ap) and a transverse pass(Tp), and selects shifting up range(Su) of the manual transmission mode by the select lever(10). A second manual mode pass is connected to the automatic mode pass(Ap) and the transverse pass(Tp), and selects shifting down range(Sd) of the manual transmission mode by the select lever(10). A third manual mode pass connects the first manual mode and the second manual mode pass directly.
