The front face (9) is part of a section (8) in rigid material. The rear face (12) includes flexible but not flaccid material. Both materials are inert with respect to the tissues, and mutually-compatible. An Independent claim is included for the method of manufacture. Front and rear sections are molded and bonded by polymerization in succession, with an intervening trimming stage. Further details and variants of the process are provided. Preferred features: The prosthesis is used with an implant (5) located after removal of the eyeball, with or without prior enucleation. Implant and rear face have engaging formations. The flexible material of the rear face forms a projection (6) supported by the prosthesis. A casing (6) in flexible material surrounds a rear projection (13). The connection, formed by complementary shapes of appropriate rigidity, transmits movements. The prosthesis can be in a single piece. Flexible material Shore hardness is 25-45, preferably about 30. It forms a thickness of 0.1-3.0 mm on the more rigid surface. Ratios of thickness, flexible to rigid materials, are between 10:90 and 60:40. |
