The invention relates to an injection system, comprising a piezoelectric actuator (10), a hydraulic transmission element (12) and a control valve (14). When the injection system is operating continuously, the stroke of the piezoelectric actuator (10) can be transmitted to the control valve (14) by means of a hydraulic medium in the hydraulic transmission element (12). The piezoelectric actuator (10) and the components of the hydraulic transmission element (12) are arranged in such a way in relation to the control valve (14) that at least part of the stroke of said piezoelectric actuator (10) can be transmitted directly to the control valve (14). According to the inventive method for operating a piezo injector, the piezoelectric actuator (10) is excited electrically and caused to perform a stroke, the stroke is transmitted directly to a control valve (14) in a first phase, the hub is transmitted hydraulically to a control valve (14) in a second phase, and the control valve (14) is opened as result of this stroke.
