<p>A process for producing a 4,6-bis(substituted)phenylazoresorcinol represented by formula (2) which comprises mixing a solution of a (substituted) benzenediazonium salt represented by formula (1) with a solution or suspension of the hydroxide of an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal to obtain an alkaline mixture, mixing and reacting this mixture with an aqueous solution of resorcinol and/or of an alkali metal salt or alkaline earth metal salt thereof, and mixing the resultant reaction mixture with an acid liquid to make the mixture acid and thereby crystallize the target compound, characterized in that the acidification of the reaction mixture is conducted by adding the reaction mixture to the acid liquid and mixing them. The process is effective in reducing the time required for filtration for collecting the reaction product to thereby heighten production efficiency.
