PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To miniaturize a light source part, and to improve efficiency thereof. SOLUTION: This surface lighting system, arranged so as to cover the surface of a reflection type liquid crystal element 2, is formed of a transparent board 4 made of the translucent material and a light source part 6 arranged along one side surface 5 of the transparent board 4. The light source part 6 is formed of a light leading body 7 formed into a wedge shape with cross section changing gradually, and a point light source 8 arranged in an end 12 having a large cross section. The light emitted from the point light source 8 enters the light leading body 7 from the end 12. Cross section of the light leading body 7 at the other end 18 thereof is formed small, so as to reduce the quantity of the light leaking outside from the end 18, and the light can be made to enter the transparent board 4 efficiently. In the case of using plural light source parts 6 also, miniaturization is realized by forming the light guide body 7 into a wedge shape, and the luminance of a screen can be also improved. |
