SURFACE-PROCESSING METHOD FOR POLYPHENYLENE SULFIDE FIBER AND POLYSULFONE FIBER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a processing method for hydrophilization of polyphenylene sulfide fibers and polysulfone fibers to easily be wet by an alkali electrolyte in such a way that a wetting time for a 30-38% potassium hydroxide aqueous solution becomes 10 s at the longest in a new state immediately after hyderophilization processing. SOLUTION: This method comprises a step of allowing a mixed gas to act on polyphenylene sulfide fibers or polysulfone fibers. The mixed gas consists of 1-5 vol.% based on the mixed gas of free fluorine, <=20 vol.% based on the mixed gas of free oxygen and nitrogen as a carrier gas. The mixed gas- acting step features that the step is conducted until the total content of fluorine in the polyphenylene sulfide fibers or polysulfone fibers reaches 0.01-0.2 wt.%.
