PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain high battery performance fairly independently to the humidification of supplied gas. SOLUTION: This fuel cell is provided with a polymer electrolyte membrane, a pair of electrodes with the polymer electrolyte membrane between them, an anode side separator having a gas passage for supplying fuel gas to one electrode, a cathode side separator having a gas passage for supplying oxidizer gas to the other electrode, catalyst layers 2 where the electrodes in contact with the polymer electrolyte membrane, electrode base materials 3 having gas permeability and electron conductivity, and water repellant layers 4 placed between the catalyst layers and the electrode base materials. The water repellant layers have multiple through-holes 5, and the catalyst layers and the electrode base materials are electrically connected through the through-holes. |
