PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject medicinal agent slowly absorbed after spraying thereof on soil and capable of sustaining attractant effects of an attractant for ants and attracting and controlling the ants around treated sites or nest cavities by formulating a substance for delaying the absorption in the soil. SOLUTION: This attractant for ants comprises a solution used by spraying thereof on a habitat region of the ants and capable of delaying the absorption thereof in soil. The time for the attractant substantially absorbed in the soil is preferably, e.g. about 1-15 min. In order to delay the absorption in the soil, the formulation of a natural and a synthetic substances capable of imparting the viscosity (preferably water-soluble polysaccharides such as xanthan gum) is cited. When water is used as a solvent, the substances are preferably used in an amount of preferably 0.01-30 wt.%. Furthermore, a water absorbent polymer (e.g. a cross-linked isobutylene-maleic acid copolymer) is preferably formulated with the attractant for the ants. When a formicide is formulated, a controlling agent for the ants can be obtained.
