PURPOSE: A spool is provided to prevent a backlash and off-thread in the spool of a spinning reel. CONSTITUTION: This spool of a spinning reel is a deformed spool in which the thread winding body(7a is not uniform circular but is different in each cross section. The cross section including a spool shaft center is an isosceles trapezoid having different lengths of the front end and the rear end. A certain cross section has a positive taper gradually reducing its diameter toward the front end, while a cross section orthogonal to the cross section has a reversed taper gradually reducing its diameter toward the rear end. The cross section VII-VII of the front end is an oval, while the cross section IX-IX of the rear end is a reverse-directing oval in which the major and the minor axes of the oval of the front end cross at right angles. The cross section VIII-VIII between the front end and the rear end is a circle. In this case, as the positive taper and the reverse taper are formed on the thread winding body(7a), backlashes and thread droppings are hardly occurring when the fishing line is wound around the thread winding body.
