PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensure reduction of NOx and CO in waste gas and further ensure the low cost and space saving without provision of a separate secondary combustion furnace. SOLUTION: A granular article to be melted is supplied into a flame F of an oxygen burner 2 protruded into a furnace using air or nitrogen gas as carrying gas, and is combusted and melted in a stoichiometric oxygen ratio or less, and a produced molten article is discharged from a molten article discharge outlet 14 provided below the furnace. Produced waste gas is exhausted from a waste gas exhaust outlet 18 provided in an upper portion of the furnace, and a space locating closer to the side of the exhaust gas exhaust outlet 18 than the tip end 21 of the oxygen burner 2 is employed as a secondary combustion space 17, and combustion assisting gas containing oxygen is supplied into the secondary combustion space 17 by an injection nozzle 42.
