New complexes and combinations of hyaluronic acid with carnitine or acylcarnitines have protective activity on tissues and cell plasmamembrane and antiinflammatory and radical-scavenger activities

Complexes and combinations of hyaluronic acid with carnitine or acylcarnitines are new. ACTIVITY : Antiinflammatory; antiulcer. In tests on antiinflammatory activity on Dithranol induced inflammation in guinea pigs, a hyaluronic acid/acetyl-L-carnitine complex spread at a dose level of 100 mg gave 78+-6.8 % inhibition of phlogistic area compared with controls, compared with a figure of 52+-4.9 % for acetyl-L-carnitine (100 mg) together with hyaluronic acid (50 mg). MECHANISM OF ACTION : None given.
