PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate insufficient charging aircompanying high definition in order to realize a uniform display by using one horizontal scanning cycle immediately after polarity inversion of a signal voltage during one horizontal period as the dummy horizontal scanning cycle. SOLUTION: In a horizontal scanning period '1', Vn and Vn+1 are at a selection level as shown in Figs. (5), (6), and pixels on an n-th scanning line Gn are charged with a normal signal voltage, and also the pixels on the (n+1)-th scanning line Gn+1 are pre-charged. In a scanning period '2', only the Vn+1 is at the selection level as shown in Fig. (6), the pixels on the (n+1)-th scanning line Gn+1 are charged with the normal signal voltage. A scanning period '3' is used as a dummy horizontal scanning period. The dummy horizontal scanning period does not means the period for charging the normal signal voltage but means the pre-charging period of a dummy signal irrespective of the voltage level as long as is of a prescribed polarity. Namely, the normal horizontal scanning period is provided with the dummy horizontal scanning period for applying the dummy signal.
