PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To complete machining in a short time without flawing a work surface even if an error is included in a command path by calculating a permissible feed speed from a feature quantity representing the temporal shift in the position of a machining tool on a predicted track and its permissible value. SOLUTION: The track of the machining tool when the speed of a machine tool is controlled by using the command path and command feed speed commanded by a machining program and the permissible feed speed is found from the feature quantity representing the temporal shift in the position of the machining tool on the predicted track and its permissible value. As the feature quantity, the acceleration of the machining tool on the predicted track or the normal component, etc., of the acceleration is used. Of this numerical controller, a temporary command position generation part 5 has a preread buffer 5a which stores block information. A track prediction part 6 calculates the predicted track from transmission characteristics from a command position to a machining position which takes the delay of a servo system, etc., into account.
