PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure the number of input bits required for digital gamma correction without increasing an operating frequency more than a required frequency in an image pickup device having 3 CCDs subject to spatial pixel shift. SOLUTION: Over-sampling circuits 3-1-3-3 receiving outputs of a plurality of image pickup elements 1-1-1-3 subjected to spatial pixel shift apply over- sampling to the outputs at a odd number multiple. Then LPFs 4-1-4-3 limit the frequency band of the over-sampled signals to the original frequency band to increase number of bits of the signals. Interleaving circuits 5-1-5-3 interleave 0 data from the signals, the result is given to gamma correction circuits 6-1-6-3, where digital gamma correction is applied to the resulting signals. Thus, number of bits to be processed by A/D converters 2-1-2-3 can be decreased.
