PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To develop a master shared by individual sizes, and to provide a method and a jig for measuring the peripheral length of a cathode-ray tube panel preventing a temporary extension deformation caused by a tensile force applied on a metal band from generating an error. SOLUTION: This method and jig use a variable peripheral length forming mean M selecting a diameter for the cylindrical members 7a to 7d, and setting center distances of them to set a target peripheral length of a cathode ray tube panel of a subject model size, and a peripheral length gauge G comprising a flexible strip 10 in a loop shape having base blocks 8a, 8b on the both ends, and an elastic member 9 connecting the base blocks. A standard value S is obtained by attaching the peripheral length gauge in a tension state to the variable peripheral length forming mean. Peripheral lengths of individual cathode ray tube panels are measured by attaching the peripheral length gauge in the tension state to the periphery of them. The actual peripheral length of a subject cathode ray tube is calculated by comparing the measured value and the standard value.
