The invention relates to a transmission, especially a toothed wheel transmission, comprising a plurality of gear elements (1, 2), especially toothed wheels. The aim of the invention is to prevent or at least reduce clattering and rattling noises. To this end, sensors are provided which detect the noise-relevant parameters such as torsional face backlash, axial play, radial play, angular acceleration, rotational speed, transmission oil temperature, and operational state of the transmission. Said sensors transmit to an information processing unit which is coupled to auxiliary means (26) for actively influencing the plays existing between the gear elements (1, 2).
