<p>A permanent magnet electric motor which is highly efficient and has good startability. The permanent magnet electric motor includes a stator (20) having an annular stator ring (22) of magnetic material and stator salient poles (24) disposed equidistantly along the outer periphery thereof, and a rotor (10) having four sets of permanent magnets (12a) arranged oppositely with an equal pitch on the inner periphery side of the stator ring (22), the permanent magnets (12a) being supported for rotation along the inner periphery of the stator ring (22). An excitation controller (30) feeds excitation current to the excitation coils (24b) of the stator salient poles (24) on the basis of the predetermined order, timing and excitation polarity, whereby the rotor (10) is synchronously driven. Before the excitation coils (24b) is excited, the rotor (10) provided with the permanent magnets (12a) are free to rotate along the inner peripheral side of the stator ring (22) with almost no load, so that the startability is good.</p> |
