Waste water purification device comprises a clarification basin (1) with a solid material accumulation area (4). An outlet fitted with a closing device (8) leads to a solids collection area (7). An Independent claim is included for a method of operating a waste water purification device as described above which comprises opening the outlet when the solids concentration in the accumulation area reaches a high enough level, washing these through the outlet into the solids collection area and then closing the outlet.
