PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To securely and simply substitute hydrogen of a silicone atom of hydridosilsesquioxanes with an alkoxyl, aralkyl or aryloxy group by reacting hydrido silsesquioxanes with alcohols or hydroxyarenes. SOLUTION: (A) hydridosilsesquioxanes of the formula ((n) is an integer >=6) are reacted with (C) alcohols (preferably, benzyl alcohols or aliphatic alcohols), hydroxyarenes (preferably, phenols) or mixtures of these in the presence of (B) a transition metal containing catalyst (preferably, catalyst containing titanium, etc.), to substitute a part or all of hydrogen atoms on the silicone atom of the component A with a RO group (R is an alkyl, aralkyl or aryl). The preferable component A is any one of the hydrido silsesquioxanes of the formulas of n=8, 10, 12, 14, 16 or 18 or a part of them or mixtures of all. |
