PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new strain belonging to proteobacteria alpha subdivision, having an aromatic hydrocarbon decomposition ability, capable of effectively cleaning an ocean contaminated with a hardly decomposable hydrocarbon by making the strain have a specific base sequence. SOLUTION: This strain has properties of (A) a base sequence of 16S rRNA gene showing >=90% homology to a base sequence of formula I, (B) a base sequence of gyrB gene showing >=73% homology to a base sequence of formula II and (C) decomposition ability of an aromatic hydrocarbon such as naphthalene, etc. An ocean contaminated with the aromatic hydrocarbon is preferably treated with the strain belonging to proteobacteria alpha subdivision such as alpha proteobacterium MBIC 4,524 (FERM P-17, 496), etc. to clean the contaminated ocean. |
