PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing calcium aluminate, by which alumina-containing refractory wastes inevitably generated in iron mills and so on, namely alumina-based refractory wastes, can effectively be used. SOLUTION: This method for producing calcium aluminate comprises mixing at least one calcareous material 1 among lime 1a, quick lime 1b and slaked lime 1c with at least one aluminous material 2 among bauxite 2a and alumina- based refractories 2b generated in, for example, an iron-making industry, and then baking the mixture in a high temperature range of 1,200 to 1,350 deg.C to produce the calcium aluminate 5 which contains 3CaO.Al2O3 and Ca3(Al, Fe)2O6 in an amount of >=30 wt.% and is useful as an agent for fixing fluorine contained in industrial wastes or drains.
